Myomassology

Pricing: 90 min ($125), 75 min ($110), 60 min ($90), 30 min ($60)

The term was created by a group of leading US Massage Therapists and Educators at their Annual Conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1972. It was created as a result of their decision to include the Ancient Healing Arts in their training and scope of practice. From then on, other bodywork modalities such as Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Accupressure were taught and included in Myomassology Massage training, as well as full Swedish Massage techniques.

Myomassology’s multiple modality approach and therapeutic techniques allow the practitioner to incorporate different therapies into one treatment, such as receiving cupping and reflexology points during a Myomassology treatment. Working holistically means to look at more than just the physical aspects of managing pain and dysfunction. The treatment space is a calm, quiet relaxing environment providing clients with a safe space to be heard, to be still and find balance mentally and physically.

During a treatment there is an assessment of your pelvic alignment along with some stretching and balancing if required. The pelvis moves in 3 planes, and it is essential to balance misalignment to reduce pain and dysfunction in our bodies. If you think of the pelvis as the foundation for movement, if there are issues with the foundation the body must adjust for this often-causing pain in other areas. This is true for conditions such as Sciatica, Scoliosis, S.I. joint dysfunction, Piriformis Syndrome, shoulder pain and back pain.

The body’s righting reflexes are situated in the eyes and inner ears. They sense minute changes on balance and can tell immediately when you are in danger of falling over. These reflexes assist you in maintaining an upright stance. They are involuntary, never switch off and are basis for the compensatory efforts, along with pain and injury.

Myomassology incorporates techniques to align the pelvis and release contracted muscles. Through continuing assessment, it is possible to allow the body to adjust and maintain a better foundation where we can work on functionality of movement improving your day-to-day functioning as well as reducing pain levels. Treatments usually include the use of an infrared heat lamp and may include cupping.

If you are experiencing nerve pain, such as tingling, numbness, constant deep ache, there are often areas of impingement causing the nerve to become trapped within a contracted muscle. Myomassolgy can be very effective when used in conjunction with other treatments in reducing symptoms and improving function.
